Ethical behavior vs Character Building

Ethical behavior is considered as the result of character building behaviors occurring through the lifetime of an individual. Aristotle had an agreement with his tutor by the Socrates through the saying that suggests that an individual’s goodness is found on the actor and not the action itself. Selection of an act by a person may be virtuous depending on the method of selection. The philosopher argued that people had much desire of having happiness and be good. Hence, whenever they did any wrong act, comprehension of the actions was not the reason. From that, Aristotle taught human wrong did not arise from intentof human nut through the errors committed.

Furthermore, Aristotle gave continuous teaching about how one’s upbringing on good habits could make learn and grow from studying. The philosopher also taught that each and every human’s ethical practical wisdom can be attained by birth. However, the achievement comes by the completion two main stages. One, is the development of proper habits during the childhood stages. Secondly, acquiring of practical wisdom when reason is fully developed. Practical wisdom combination makes the ethical virtue to be very much developed.

Purportedly, Aristotle also taught that technical skills have a similarity with the ethical virtues because most of the skilled workers has knowledge on how to avoid deficiency and excess. Hence, acceptance of philosophical principles and truths are as a result of ethics. One’s genetic makeup or rather DNA does not determine the ethical behaviors. They are acquired through the behavior learnt lifetime. By that, the ethical principles contribute greatly to improvement of lives. Moreover, Aristotle stated that ethics are also dependent on a virtue. The Aristotle writings are dived into various arguments as discussed below.

There is the human good and function argument. He begins by giving the differences on the opinion about the best for human kind and dissolving of the disagreement. Aristotle suggests that theoretical disciplines should not be confused with ethics. "No one tries to live well for the sake of some further goal rather, being eudaimon is the highest end, and all subordinate goals-health, wealth, and other resources- are sought because they promote well-being, not because they are what well-being consist in”. His conclusion about nature of happiness is his own unique sense. Moreover, he insists that one should consider striving to exercise the virtues and responsibilities without necessarily depending on parents and citizens’ guidance.

Although Aristotle deep indebting to moral philosophies of Plato, on particular the suggestion that moral thinking has to be an integration with human emotions and appetite and the basis depends on childhood education basis. Hence remarkable innovation on childhood education is considered as very innovative themes. From history, Aristotle ethical never been compared to any other philosopher.

The moral development and human nature is defended in two-part thesis. There is the ethical virtue that has the inclusivity of character and thought of virtues and human motivation and virtue roles in enabling one to achieve good life and ethics. However, the latter is not fully supported by Aristotle as highlighted earlier. Aristotle states that the acceptance of virtues can also be based on the religious beliefs and cultural differences.

From all the discussions above, ethical behavior is learned behavior rather achieved throughout lifetime. However, they must be practiced from childhood and throughout upbringing of an individual. Moreover, the argument is supported through the realization of ethics as learned behavior that is attained through potentiality of an individual and believe. The behaviors can be emulated from the validation from friends, family and peers. The understanding, builds more knowledge on the growth of behavior during the stages of psychology and philosophy.

Further, it is evident that the decision maker makes both the legal and moral decision in ethical behavior choice. Hence, the way people should act is more important when studying ethics rather than the way people act. By that, the ethical behavior should be seen in each and every place one works or operates. Some individuals may make decision by depending on the learned personal ethical behaviors. That makes the outcome very unpredictable hence very irrelevant in one’s grooming process.

Consistency in ethical thinking and methods of relating and treating with persons who surround us is also very important according to Aristotle. Ethic courses give a useless meaning because they cannot be lectured by a professor or any tutor. From that and other supportive arguments, it is clear that the ethics are real natural behaviors. There is major doubt on the ethical courses even from critics who state that it is very hard to reverse habits and beliefs. Hence, more focus should be put on educating students on the accepted ethical systems of behavior.
